Catherine Ommanney-RHODC
Post from Guest of a Guest.
By Gabrielle Bluestone
Despite her British roots, Cat Ommanney appears firmly rooted here in D.C. (why else would Bravo cast her as a Real Housewife?) Today we take a look at the only foreigner in the D.C. cast.
Interestingly, this Housewife is much more elusive on the internet than our past bio subjects, Mary Amons and Lynda Erkiletian.
Catchphrase: On 13-years-younger Prince Harry: ?He kissed me, I didn't kiss him. I did nothing wrong. I certainly wasn't trying to seduce a 21-year-old."
Of all the new Housewives, Ommanney may be the biggest stretch in terms of representing D.C. The blond British interior designer wed prizewinning Newsweek photographer Charles Ommanney in 2008 and moved stateside with him and her two children from a previous marriage.
And although the Salahis may have enjoyed the most negative public attention from their White House crashing antics, it seems Ommanney also suffered from filming the first season. According to the Washington Post, the show contributed to the dissolution of her marriage.
"There's no question that having a television crew in their home all those months was a huge strain,? a friend told the Post.

The Alzheimer's Association Rita Hayworth Gala Kicks Off In East Hampton
By Douglas Harrington
East Hampton - A stunning late July summer afternoon brought out an eclectic mix of celebrities from the world of fashion, art, finance and media for a cocktail party at the equally stunning home of Allen and Deborah Grubman. The event was a summer kick-off celebration for the annual Rita Hayworth Alzheimer's Association Gala that will take place in Manhattan in October.
An iconic star of Hollywood's Golden Age, Rita Hayworth was afflicted with the disease prematurely in her 50s, although early on it was misdiagnosed as alcoholism and then described as senile dementia. Cared for in the waning years of her life by her daughter the Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, the Princess has been a tireless supporter of the Alzheimer's Association work and this year will mark her 27th year as host of the gala in her mother's name to be held on October 26 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
Among the many notables in attendance were Chele Upton Chiavacci Gala Co-Chair, as well as long time supporter Alexandra Lebenthal and her sister Claudia Lebenthal, Lizzie Grubman, Jay McInerney and Anne Hearst McInerney, Hunt Slonem, Rachel Heller, Nancy Corzine, Cornelia Sharpe Bregman, Fern Mallis, Helena Inzerillo, Dick and Donna Soloway, Robert Zimmerman, Lady Liliana Cavendish, Simon van Kempen and Alex McCord. This year's Gala was chaired by Michele Herbert.
Princess Yasmin's passion for this cause is infectious and she still remains emotional regarding the devastating effect it had on her mother who died in 1987, "The average age is 65, but my mother started in her 50s, so she had the early onset of Alzheimer's, but we didn't even have the name for it in those days. I have personally met people in their 40s with Alzheimer's. It is worldwide and it is a dreadful disease, but particularly for the caregiver because they have such tormenting and incredibly difficult responsibilities."
Although there is no cure, with new medications and the ability of new techniques in brain scans for early detection the treatment of the disease has improved dramatically since Hayworth was first officially diagnosed in 1981. Particularly encouraging is the discovery of an Alzheimer's related protein recently at MIT, which may open new pathways to an eventual cure.
This year's gala Philanthropy Award honoree is G. Marlyne Sexton who like so many have had Alzheimer's personally touch her life, "I have an aunt in Dallas who has suffered with the disease since she was 60. She is in her very late 70s now, so it has been a long time. I have another friend whose father has it. It touches everybody." Her substantial gifts to the association have been designated strictly for research in an effort to find a cure for a disease that proliferates exponentially as a result of the population's extended life expectancy.
Also being honored this year are fashion designers Naeem and Ranjana Khan (no relation to Princess Yasmin) with the Rita Hayworth Award for their long time work in support of the Alzheimer's Association. Naeem noted, "Yasmin is a very dear friend of ours, she is almost like my sister. We have been involved with the Alzheimer's Association for the last nine years. It is a cause that is very close to us because we had a very dear friend, our neighbor in Connecticut, who suffered with the disease for a very long time, a very, very long time. It really touched our hearts and we wanted to be part of the efforts to see that comes to an end."
Many other guests at the event spoke of how Alzheimer's has in some way or another touched their lives, including van Kempen and McCord who spoke of her father's battle with the disease and her loss of him when she was just 11 years old. It will indeed be only the rare among us that will not eventually have to confront the devastating effects of this disease, either personally or as a caregiver to a loved one.
Gracious and hospitable the Grubman's generously gave over their home to give the Manhattan event in October a proper Hamptons summer kick-off. Undoubtedly all in attendance will also be at the Waldorf-Astoria gala, as the passion for this cause was palpable among every attendee.
Once again Hamptons altruism shone at its best as 15 year Alzheimer's Association Steering Committee member Deborah Grubman noted in giving over their home for the kick-off party, "It was truly our pleasure, it is a very worthwhile cause. I am hoping we do find a cure so we can move on to another worthwhile health charity soon."
Yes, as always, need finds hope and support in the Hamptons, as was the case at this year's Alzheimer's Association Rita Hayworth Gala Hamptons Kick-off.

Kelly-RHONY Talks To PAPERMAG
Q&A from PAPERMAG.
Kelly Bensimon Has a New Show and Other Tidbits From Her Chat With PAPERMAG
By Alex Catarinella
As we reported earlier, G-Shock's "Shock the World" concert last night featuring Ke$ha was awash with reality stars, including Danielle Staub and Kelly Bensimon. We caught up with the Real Housewife of New York Bensimon for a chat about what she's been up to on her time off from the show and her solo project.
There was so much drama on the Real Housewives of New York this season. How have you risen above it?
Because I'm grounded. I mean, I come from a great family, I have a great education, I have unbelievable kids, I have a great ex-husband, and I have amazing friends. So what I'm doing on television is just so much fun and I love it. But I don't take it home with me. Drama doesn't really interest me. Problems with kids or charity? That interests me. But the drama just is like fuel for that fire. It just allows me the freedom to be more charitable and that's awesome.
How has summer treated you? You've had a break from filming.
We hear you're working on a secret solo project.
I am working on a project and we're live-streaming it. That'll be interesting for a lot of viewers too because they're going to be able to see me live. So I don't know what's going to happen on the Housewives because they're gonna be like, 'Wait a minute, here she is live and working! So we've gotta bring it up. She doesn't really care, you know. She works hard!'

I have my show on Plum TV and I've just been really so fortunate to be incredibly charitable. I just ran the Rock 'n' Roll half marathon yesterday in Chicago. I did it in two hours which is really good and really fun. It was for the American Cancer Society. And let's be honest... Let's fight cancer and everyone deserves a birthday.
Do you identify with any of the other Housewives from the other franchises?
I don't really identify with any of them. We're so completely different and I think that's what makes the show so exciting is that it's all of these different women in the intersection of these lives. You know, it's not the 'Kelly Kiloren Bensimon Show' so that's why I don't really take it to heart, because it's not really about me. It's about the intersection with other people and how I respond to them -- so that's just like, fun.
We hear you're working on a secret solo project.

Grooming Lounge to 'Real Housewives' Cast Member: You Owe Us Real $!
By Betsy Rothstein
The Grooming Lounge, a spa off Dupont Circle that caters only to men, is claiming that one of those cast members from Bravo's "Real Housewives of D.C" hasn't paid his bill.
The Lounge tweeted today: "One of the cast members of the new Real Housewives of DC owes Grooming Lounge money. Won't reveal the name, but time to settle up."
Hopefully the Lounge won't take it further. The spa does cater to men with "Embarrassing Problems" such as excessive hair, odor, oral care, acne and dandruff. Surely no male cast member wants his dirty problems all hanging out. Unless of course, he just got a facial.
We'll keep you posted...

BFFs, we spoke The Real Housewives of New Jersey star about her budding music career and she says she’d love to work with Ke$ha! The idea might actually be in the works because Danielle was spotted at Ke$ha’s big NYC concert just last night!
Danielle Staub and Ke$ha aren’t two names we’d expect to hear in one sentence, but after HollywoodLife.com spoke with the reality star, we discovered we might be hearing those names together a lot more. Just last week we told you about Danielle’s hopes to be the next American Idol judge, and now she reveals that she’d absolutely love to record a song with Ke$ha for her new album!
“I am going to be recording with a lot of people,” Danielle tells us. “There’s a potential of one big name … but I can’t confirm it. I’d like … no, I’d LOVE to work with Ke$ha.”
Danielle was spotted Aug. 2 at Ke$ha’s concert at NYC’s Manhattan Center and we’re wondering if those two have already started collaborating!
But Danielle wants everyone to know that if you’re a big name and you want to work with her, just give her a holler!
“I would love to have some mainstream rapper to come in a rap like 50 Cent!”

Bridgehampton got a burst of exotic color and samba with the opening of the much anticipated Jogo by Pooneh boutique boutique which is fast becoming the de rigueur stop-in for chic Hamptonites and visitors alike. Browsing to the upbeat bossa nova and samba beats, guests found themselves no longer on Main Street Bridgehampton but rather a tropical paradise.
Hosted by Haley Binn, Kimberly Guilfoyle and Susan Shin, the opening celebration also was the kick-off for the Best Buddies Gala that will be held August 21 at the home of Anne Hearst and Jay McInerney. A generous portion of proceeds from the evening was donated to the organization, whose mission is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Owner Pooneh Mohazzabi explained:
"Jogo by Pooneh is a celebration of passion for life, color, opportunity and for giving back."
Founded by Pooneh Mohazzabi, with creative and operational input from her sisters, Jogo by Pooneh launched last year in New York City to much acclaim. The opening of the flagship store on Bridgehampton furthers their vision of expanding the brand globally, in line with their other businesses throughout the world.

'Real Housewives of NJ': Kim G. creates 'a huge display of disgusting'
By Jethro Nededog
In this episode of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey," Teresa throws her new baby a huge christening, while Joe continues to worry about their finances. And cracks in Danielle and Kim G.'s friendship turn into huge chasms.
Teresa's big fat Italian wedding christening
Dina is back! For one engagement only! I was shocked at how pleased I was to see her. Weren't you? I also thought it was interesting that Italians have the godmother totally dress the baby for the ceremony. It's always fun to learn something new about a culture.
The party was over-the-top, but we wouldn't expect any less from Teresa. I mean when you see someone dressed as Marie Antoinette walking around a christening, you know you're in for a good time. It felt like a wedding and a circus at the same time, which actually looked like fun. The best part was the first dance between Joe, Teresa... and the baby! On one level, it's hilarious watching Teresa and Joe dance with their baby. They were just so serious. I'm sure if we were there, it may have been as touching as Caroline and Jacqueline found it. But for us viewers, it just looked bananas. Also did anyone catch that the group of guys that Joe was toasting, obviously related to him, all looked like Joe? It was as if we were looking at him at all stages of life. There was a younger Joe, an older Joe, and a Joe twin!
The OB/GYN is in (and so are the cameras)
Danielle took her teenaged daughter to her first gynecology appointment. As if having Danielle for a mother isn't enough, Christine has to endure her first gyno visit in front of millions of people while she endures the sex talk twice - once with her mother and then with the doctor. Even worse, Danielle wouldn't stop asking her if she's having sex or if there are any boys she should be worried about. Embarrassing! I wouldn't know, but female friends of mine who saw the episode say they would die if their mother put their first gyno visit on TV. How do you feel about that?
Kim G. exposed
Kim G. is still playing both sides. She drops in on Chris and her son, John, as they're hanging out and starts to try to explain her actions to the boys. John looks really uncomfortable, probably because he knows where this is heading. Kim had previously asked Caroline to lunch, but Caroline turned her down. Now, she's trying to get Caroline to have lunch with her by appealing to Chris. He says maybe Caroline will do it if the boys go, as well, and Kim quickly agrees. Later, when Chris tells his mother, Caroline sticks to her guns. She doesn't want to get mixed up in Danielle drama and as long as Kim is hanging with her, she wants to steer clear of her, as well.
Later, Danielle goes over to Kim's apartment. After they tell each other that they love each other about 15 times, Danielle tells Kim that she brought Christine for her first OB/GYN appointment. That got Danielle thinking about her adoptive mother and how she wasn't there for Danielle like that. She then begins to tear up as she tells Kim that she wants to find her birth mother. Crying right along with her, Kim recommends someone who can help her.
Meanwhile, Kim shows up on Jacqueline's doorstep, cursing up a storm. Turns out Danielle had called a mutual friend and told her not to be friends with Kim. She has no idea why Danielle would do such a thing and she seems really hurt and angry. Jacqueline (have to love her) tells Kim that it was only a matter of time before Danielle realized that Kim was a double agent.
The showdown
When they meet up, Danielle is amazingly calm. It's Kim that goes off the rails (as Bethenny likes to say). She's throwing napkins, calling Danielle a sneak and getting bleeped left and right. Meanwhile, the entire restaurant is full of busybodies just watching the fight go down, toasting to the drama and even following them outside after Kim chases Danielle out. Best line came from Danielle when she said, "Kim was making a big display of disgusting." Point for Danielle. I couldn't have said it better myself. It must have felt like déjà vu for Danny. You know, driving the getaway car again and all.

Teresa's big fat Italian wedding christening
It's time for Teresa's newest daughter, Audriana, to be christened and she's planning a huge affair. It's getting more and more painful watching Teresa spend money, though, while Joe winces with each of her lavish demands (especially knowing what we know now about her bankruptcy). Teresa said on "The View" Monday (August 2) that Joe kept the severity of their finances from her. While it's true that Joe comes off passive-aggressive in the show, it's clear he's dropping hints. Teresa just doesn't choose to see them.
Nevertheless, Teresa wants what she wants. I love that Caroline's son is in charge of Teresa's party and that it'll be sort of his big test of how well prepared he is after working at The Brownstone as a manager for one year. Now that's a trial by fire.
Photo: Bravo |
On the day of the event, Joe was not in a good mood. Poor guy has been flipping pizzas to pay for Teresa's spending habits. I'd be pissy, too. He does grant her a few pictures, but he pretty much just wants her to leave him alone. Good thing the cavalry arrives.
The party was over-the-top, but we wouldn't expect any less from Teresa. I mean when you see someone dressed as Marie Antoinette walking around a christening, you know you're in for a good time. Then, while Danielle and her daughters are having dinner later, Christine tells her mother that she heard she was looking for her birth mother. How does Christine know if Danielle didn't tell her, pray tell? Well, Christine's friend was getting her eyebrows done and the woman doing her eyebrows told her that Teresa had mentioned it when she was getting her eyebrows bushwhacked. So, since Kim was the only one Danielle told, then it's obvious Kim told Teresa somehow. Right away, Danielle gets on the phone with her ex-felon, Danny, and says they have to do something about it. So, what's their genius plan? Danielle is going to face off with Kim at a restaurant. Hold your applause. Danny, wait for it... is going to drive Danielle there! Well, that amazingly thought out plan explains why they both have arrest records.
The RHODC And Their Political Connections

President Barack Obama
Alleged White House crasher Michaele Salahi informs her hairstylist that she knows just how much Obama “loves people” because they worked together on a Rock the Vote event. “It was in the Oval Room,” says Salahi, before being told that, no, it was the Oval Office.
As Housewife Stacie Turner explains that she met Obama "years ago,” the camera zooms in on a photo taken of her and her husband with the president. "I just knew that that man was going places," she says.
Cat Ommanney seems to have the strongest White House connection — her then-husband Charles (since the show filmed, the two have filed for divorce) is a White House photographer who traveled with Obama for two years on the campaign trail. “Charles’s photographs contributed to [Obama] being elected,” she claims.
Vice President Joe Biden
During a dinner party, Ommanney brandishes her iPhone to show her co-stars a picture her husband had sent her of Vice President Biden wearing sunglasses in the back of a limo. “His hard day in the office is being supercool, sitting in the backseat with the vice president,” she says of Charles.
Dick Cheney and Colin Powell
Minutes into the first episode, Amons says, “We live in McLean, Va. We are surrounded by the CIA, Dick Cheney — oh, Colin Powell lives across the street.”

The five cast members of “The Real Housewives of D.C.” don’t possess strong connections to the political world that dominates Washington: One sells real estate; another owns a modeling agency; each does charity work. Still, on the debut episode of the Bravo reality show, airing Thursday night at 9 p.m., many of the housewives go to extremes to prove their ties — no matter how strong or weak — to political power. Herewith, details on how some prominent pols are connected, even tenuously, to the newest batch of housewives.

President George W. Bush
Ommanney claims that President George W. Bush RSVP’d to her wedding, but then-Sen. Obama didn’t. “George was almost like a father figure to Charles in lots of ways,” she says. “All my experiences with [Bush] have been on a personal level.”
President Lyndon Johnson
Mary Amons, a native Washingtonian, was raised by a family that was politically well-connected. Her grandfather, CBS personality Arthur Godfrey, was "very good friends with President Johnson."
The Kennedy family
Amons' father was a lobbyist who became “personal friends” with Ethel Kennedy. "We'd come over, we'd hang out, pool parties," she said about growing up with the family. "I have fond memories of hanging out at that Kennedy House."

She HAD to see this coming
Aug 2nd, 2010 by Alex McCord.
There were no surprises tonight. Drama? Oh yes, there was a lot of drama. But everyone behaved pretty much exactly as I’d expect given the circumstances.
Teresa threw a christening and Joe was cranky – rewinding to autumn of 2009 when this would have been filmed it’s no wonder he wasn’t thrilled about the expense of the party. I do understand wanting your baby to be a star for a day, but ice sculptures? Maybe I’m being cranky too, but I just don’t like ice sculptures. Or long christening dresses. Or baby buggies with gauze. Or huge parties that look expensive when the financial wolves must have been howling at the door. Joe clearly wasn’t happy. OK, here’s what I did like about the party. Liked everyone crying over the first dance – that was the best part of it for me and when Joe softened up too. I loved seeing Dina, and seeing everyone fussing over the baby, including her big sisters. Also enjoyed seeing Christopher handle his first big event.
Taking your daughter to the OB GYN is a great thing to do, though probably that wasn’t really the first time she’d been to the doc – isn’t 13 or 14 about right? The one thing I’d say is that telling a kid to abstain when there is no cultural or religious precedent is a hard sell. Hope there was more to the conversation than that.
Can we discuss for a moment why Kim G has sweeping camera shots of her house? I thought only housewives had those….hmm…. After the sweeping shot, we are treated to her asking Christopher to broker a lunch date with Caroline. Why? How shortsighted is that? Sure, it’s a great idea for a mother to interrupt her son’s pool match and ask his long time friend about why his mother won’t have lunch with you. What’s more important, letting the son have his friendship or her need to be in the middle? Or is it just her need for camera time? Why do people pleasers always need to be liked? When you realize you can’t please everyone, the feeling of relief is very pleasant.
Onto the birth mother search. I don’t think any adoptee searching for their biological mom should assume it’s going to be happy and heartwarming, or a breakthrough. I sincerely hope Danielle doesn’t attach too much feeling to that and get her heart broken.
Danielle often drives me crazy with the melodramatic funny voices she does in her interviews. However, if anyone, not just Danielle, discovered that a friend she’d thought was helping her turned around and spread her secret all over a salon, where it got back to people she doesn’t like, who then told someone who told someone else who told her daughter…she’d be angry. Telling stories in a neighborhood nail salon where everyone goes is about as off the record as blogging for Bravo. Even without posting it on the internet or taking out a full page ad in the Times, if you repeat the gossip, someone who heard who knows your mother/daughter/dog walker will call her friend in Texas who will call and tell you. And by the time it gets back to you the story will have changed five times. Either get your threading done somewhere people are discreet, or keep your mouth shut, unless you need to scream when they rip the wax off your bikini line.
Good on Danielle for walking away from her daughters so they didn’t hear her talking about Kim running her mouth about the birth mother search. Why’d she call Danny? I don’t know, but if calling him helped her blow off steam, then fine.
Back to Kim G – she blasted into Jacqueline’s house and swore at the baby. Jacqueline was so flustered she put Nicholas in the silverware drawer. Well, not really, but I was glad when we saw a wide shot later and could see the exersaucer; prior to that I kept thinking “where did she put the baby?”
And onto the big confrontation, which devolved into a shouting match pretty quickly. I didn’t understand most of it. It’s not enough for women to call each other bi***hes; I’d like to know why rather than hear the swearing over and over again. Was Kim paying for the birth mother search? It’s supposedly her Bentley that Danielle rode in to various events. Kim went with Danielle to the courthouse to press charges against Ashley. Seems like she showed up for Danielle on more than one occasion – she also talked about picking up tabs, or maybe it was keeping tabs? We all learned in NYC what senses of entitlement and keeping score do amongst friends, but it really does seem that Kim did a lot for Danielle. Kim also HAD to see this coming. Come ON. In Danielle’s eyes, Kim looked like a traitor. Guess we’ll have to wait until next week…
I’ll have big news later this week; follow me on Facebook and Twitter to hear it first! Also if you’re in Long Island or the Hamptons, Simon and I will be at the East Hampton Library Writer’s Night signing our book, Little Kids, Big City on August 14th.

Maybe I should have included “jail etiquette” in my book Class with the Countess? It seems like every time I read the news, another young celebrity is heading to prison! Lindsay Lohan cried in jail because she’s locked up with criminals and is probably very scared. If I were in Lindsay’s situation, I would’ve tried to make friends and follow the rules. Hopefully she will learn something from this experience so she never has to see the inside of a jail cell again and move on with her life in a more positive way.
The summer is all about having fun with your family — any tips on how to plan a summer soirée for both parents and kids to enjoy?
Parents and children have different opinions on what makes a great summer party. Melding the expectations of both age groups can be tricky but I find that if you have activities for children, such as swimming, croquet, and badminton that parents will enjoy as well, the party is a lot more fun. In the summer, it’s great to host a BBQ where children can be under your watchful eye while playing in the garden while you enjoy a cocktail with your friends. Remember when throwing a party that includes young children to consider what kids like to eat and drink. Having the party outdoors is usually your best bet.
Tip: Have your children act as co-hosts and put them in charge of making the other children comfortable so that you have more time for your friends. Kid’s love to help. Make sure you tell them how much you appreciate it.
