Alex's People Blog

Alex's post about the RHODC from People.

By: Alex McCord
In season 3 of The Real Housewives of New York City, fans applauded when Alex McCord finally stood up for herself. Now, McCord, who says, “It is absolutely crucial and necessary in reality TV to let people know how you feel,” is bringing her outspoken attitude to a blog about Bravo’s newest chapter in the hit Housewives franchise, The Real Housewives of Washington D.C. This week, McCord discusses what happens when you make accusations about someone’s child and more:

Welcome back after Labor Day Weekend!

Here in New York the kids are (finally) back at school, and the chill in the air goes along with the fall foliage we’re seeing onscreen in DC. It’s Fashion Week in NYC, so before this column is fashionably late let’s get down to it and discuss so I can get back to Lincoln Center.

At the Oasis Winery dinner, Tareq tipsily accused Mary’s daughter of somehow being involved with a group of kids who took his car and polo equipment. Now, I know how these scenes can be chopped up in order to cover a four hour dinner in two minutes, but this seemed completely out of left field. It seemed as though everyone had been having a nice time and then Tareq decided to equate the loss of a car with the sucker punch of accusations that one of your children committed a crime, with no evidence to prove or disprove the story.

Clearly Tareq and Michaele don’t have children, which is the only reason they could claim that they were as injured as Mary was in that moment. The thought that your child might have been involved in something illegal will give you nightmares and make you question everything you ever said or did with that child. The thought that your car is gone gives you paperwork to file.

Not the same. Not at all.

None of us know the whole story as we didn’t get to see much more of it on TV, but if all Tareq and Barbie had to go on was a comment on someone else’s Facebook photo, that’s pretty lame. Later in the hour, Michaele marveled over the power of posting one’s activities on Facebook. “If you’re out there doing crazy things, it’s going to come back.” She should know: Isn’t that how their White House shenanigans became public?

Let’s move on to my favorite moment in this episode, Edwina Rogers’s tea with Cat.

I loved Edwina and her hat way back at the polo match and wondered why she wasn’t made a cast member. I loved watching Cat rake Edwina over the coals. Clearly, Edwina only wanted to get together to invite Cat and the ladies to her party. Cat took great glee in questioning Edwina about health care reform. I will step away from partisan jousting for just a second and ask, if Edwina has ideas about how to fix the mess, why didn’t she just state them instead of stammering and offering cucumber sandwiches? Maybe she should be a milliner instead. Based on what we’ve seen, I’d sooner buy a hat from her than a reform policy.

Lynda bought a house in McLean — and Stacie was (sort of) offended. As a former McLean resident myself, I see nothing wrong with the place. However, Georgetown is beautiful too and it seems as though there’s a big bias about living in the district versus not. We fight about that all the time up here, with Manhattan versus Brooklyn and apartments versus townhouses. Oy! Just find a great house and buy it. The end.
Next, we went to Edwina’s cocktail party, proof positive that drinking more will fix all your health problems, and Cat showed up dressed as Sarah Palin. Perhaps Cat was trying to compete to be the craziest person in the room. She almost won, though she was shown up by a bright pink dress containing bubbles. It was a shame the evening ended with sirens, flashing lights and a dire-sounding announcement, but hopefully we’ll find out what happened next time.
Until then, enjoy the week! I know I will. It’s jam-packed with something both Simon and I love — fashion shows!!

Alex Walking In Five Shows

Article from NY Magazine.

By: Keith Solar
Of all reality stars, there are few whose love of fashion is as well documented as The Real Housewives of New York's Alex McCord and her husband, Simon van Kempen. Simon seems to enjoy no greater thrills than watching his wife twirl in Cavalli gown after Cavalli gown on a shopping trip or sourcing fine jewelry directly from a showroom. Alex has put on — and modeled in — a fashion show in Brooklyn, and is perfectly comfortable with the knowledge that her husband would probably be in DIY heaven given a pair of red PVC pants, a can of paint, and a Bedazzler. And they are making good on the opportunities afforded by New York Fashion Week — opportunities you may not have even known existed. Last night at Glamour's party to welcome Anne Christensen as fashion director, McCord told us she'll walk five shows this season, including Susan Cianciolo, Project Runway alum Malan Breton, and three others she can't remember. We spoke to McCord, a new addition to New York Model Management's celebrity board, about her burgeoning side job.

How did this happen?
There are these girls out there who are 15, but there's definitely room for women who are not 15 ... like me.

Have you been practicing your walk?
Yes! I worked with an amazing coach, Mac, and he came to my house and we walked up and down the hallways, scaring the cat and scaring my housekeeper.

What did he teach you?
He was hard-core. He taught me thinking of a string above my head. He taught me about leading with my hips, and keeping everything still, with nothing moving except my feet. The only tough thing for me was relaxing my face. The last thing I'd want to do is make a face like Ramona on last season's Housewives. I got it down eventually.

So what's next?
I went for fittings today, and I don't think they were quite prepared for how tall and skinny I am. They saw me and they were gonna ask how I wanted my hair and makeup, and they said, "We're gonna put you in the show look," and I was like, "Yes, put me in the show look!" and they said they would because I looked like a model. Their words, not mine.

That's pretty legit.

Hopefully I won't fall off the runway. But if I do, at least that'll be good press for the designer.

Alex Talks To People About Her New Modeling Gig

Article from People.

Mark Wimberly; Rick Day

By:Aaron Parsley
Last season on The Real Housewives of New York City, fans cringed while Alex McCord subjected herself to a beach photo shoot by costar Kelly Bensimon, who came unhinged during a getaway to “Scary Island.” “That photo shoot was probably the only time I was ever really uncomfortable at a shoot,” McCord says of working with Bensimon as her photographer in the Virgin Islands.

Now, McCord, who blogs weekly for PEOPLE about The Real Housewives of Washington D.C., is more comfortably back in front of the camera, thanks to a new deal with the celebrity division of New York Model Management. “I’ve since had the chance to shoot with some fantastic photographers…I’m very happy with the results,” she says. McCord describes her personal style as “eclectic,” which won’t come as a surprise to style fans, who’ve seen her in everything from Roberto Cavalli to a FEED-bag dress. “I love to mix things up and do ruffles one day, tailored another and then maybe buttoned up the next,” she says, adding that for fall she’s picked up “a military three-quarter length jacket from Walter that I love” and “a great turtleneck knit dress from Rolando Santana.” So what does husband Simon van Kempen and her sons, Johan and François, think of Mom’s makeover? “Simon is very proud of me, and the boys think I look very glam.”

Reality Check
Alex talks vineyard drama, critiques Cat's insult slinging technique, and more.
By: Alex McCord
It’s a beautiful morning in Sag Harbor and the air is getting just a little bit cooler already. I’m thinking about DC and sun hitting the water of the reflecting pool in front of the monument. Yikes, clearly I haven’t had enough coffee, so enough of that sappy nonsense and let’s talk about the housewives.

One of the many interesting things about reality TV is seeing people unmasked, and this episode we’re finally beginning to see that with the Salahis. The show is catching up with the reality that was spread all over the news, which, although it began with the White House state dinner, seems to have stretched back to the Congressional Black Caucus. Who in their right mind would want to attend any party so badly that they would sneak in a side door? Who would invite people to a vineyard that looked like it hadn’t produced a grape in years, initiate a grape stomp with grapes that apparently came from the supermarket, and pretend that nothing was out of the ordinary? It’s meant to be a reality show, and clearly a working vineyard does not seem to be a part of the Salahis’ reality. If I go in front of the cameras and tell you I’m a 6’3” man with red hair and 10 children, saying so doesn’t magically make it true.

Was glad to see a sweet family scene at Lynda’s condo, even if the kids were wearing footie pajamas. Those moments put the “real” in reality TV, and also made me hungry. I think it’s time for brunch.

We missed a few of the men this episode – where were Rich, Paul and Charles? Hiding out, apparently. In any case, it was fun to see Ted Gibson and Jason Backe open their DC salon, though there seemed to be confusion over who helped more, Michaele or Mary. One thing I don’t understand – if Oasis donated the wine, why didn’t we see it?

Cat doesn’t like black for dining rooms. Note to self, if I meet her, I’d better not have her over to the house as I don’t think she will like my floors or chairs. Maybe she should take a page from the Ab-Fab playbook and go a little further – she’s kind of in no man’s land with the half insults. You’ve started, so go for it. More insults, please, and could they also be funnier? C’mon, everybody loves Patsy…
Why on earth did the grape stomp need to be a competition? Oh well, it looked like it could have been fun. If it was clear (as it seemed to be to the ladies) that the grapes weren’t actually going to be used for winemaking, they could have grabbed that Doberman and thrown him into the vat, too. I’d have liked to see a bit more of everyone’s shock at the pretense; that was the most interesting part for me.

Who wants to know that Tareq was referring to at the end of the episode? Criminal charges? For what? From the previews it looks like we’ll find out next week, so until then, enjoy the last week of summer and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter @mccordalex

Alex Talks About Signing With NY Model Management

Post from Hollywood Life.

By:Lindsey DiMattina
Do you think Alex has what it takes to walk the walk in the modeling world?

The Real Housewives of New York City star Alex McCord just got a HUGE modeling deal! “I just signed with the celebrity division of New York Model Management,” Alex told HollywoodLife.com exclusively Aug. 26 at the 11th Annual BNP Paribas Taste of Tennis Charity Event at the W Hotel in NYC.
“The director of the agency and Simon and I had all met some years ago at a fashion event. We kept in touch,” Alex said of how she got the contract.

“We kept in touch with him as friends,” Alex’s husband, Simon van Kempen explained. “Until we went out to dinner with him again a month ago, it was never on the radar.”

“It was just something that was brought up and seemed to make sense,” Alex added. “This is all happening literally just now. I’m excited. It seems like a lot of fun.”

“I had a great time walking the runway before,” she told us. (Remember when Alex walked the runway for a charity event in season three?) “I’ve done a lot of photo shoots especially recently for building up this book and I had fun doing that too. I think that usually the way it works is the agent goes to clients and they figure out what models they want to use for what.”

Though no gigs are lined up yet, it doesn’t seem like Alex is that picky about who she works for first. “I love clothing as wearable art. I said that on season one of the show,” Alex said. “There are so many amazing designers that are so creative.”
And at least Simon is super supportive of Alex’s new career. “I’m super proud,” Simon gushed. “An old woman can still be beautiful, look at that!”

“I’m actually the youngest one on our franchise,” Alex jokingly reminded him. “Thank you very much!”

Alex Is Sorry Michaele Was Cast For The RHODC

Post from Hollywood Life.

Photo:Splash News/Getty Images

By:Lindsey DiMattina
Alex McCord does not like Michaele Salahi! BFFs — what do you think? Do you hate or love this new D.C Housewife?

Poor Michaele Salahi – she just isn’t getting any love from the other Housewives. “I was sorry that they included Michaele [on the Real Housewives of Washington D.C.],” NYC housewife Alex McCord told HollywoodLife.com exclusively Aug. 26 at the 11th Annual BNP Paribas Taste of Tennis Charity Event at the W Hotel in NYC. “I didn’t want see that happen!”

“At the same time, jury is out” on the other new D.C. Housewives,” Alex said to us. “I see the other girls — the first season is hard because they didn’t know what to expect. I think they’re all being a little careful with each other. … I want to see what happens next.”

Alex Has Signed With New York Model Management

Post from Zap 2 It.

By Jethro Nededog
Last season on "The Real Housewives of New York City," we saw Alex McCord strut her stuff on the runway for Brooklyn Fashion Weekend and on the beach for costar Kelly Bensimon.

Well, it seems the right people noticed her modeling prowess. Zap2it has learned exclusively that McCord has signed to New York Model Management.

She inked the deal on Wednesday (August 25) and will apparently be guided in her career by the agency's director, Cory Bautista, who served as a judge on Bravo's "Make Me A Supermodel."

The housewife will be joining the agency's celebrity division alongside beauties such as Angie Everhart, Catherine Oxenberg, Kelly Lynch, and Niki Taylor.

You can find Alex's portfolio at the agency's site.

Alex, you better work!

Carrying Baggage
Alex McCord shares anecdotes from her own trips to Italy.

This week’s episode shows us why it’s best to travel in SMALL groups. We had plenty of drama when the New York girls went to St. John, but I have to say that nobody argued about bags, hotel bills, or hill climbing.
Photo: Bravo

The clan docks in Naples, and Joe is not happy about baggage. Or children, or his wife, or trash cans. Nobody knows exactly why he felt the need to drag all the bags himself. Regardless, he was in a mood, and a 1500 Euro hotel bill the next night didn’t help matters. The thing is, Europe is always expensive no matter where you stay. Loved him screaming at everyone to be civilized, and I have to say I completely felt Caroline’s pain about missing Pompeii –- I’ve only ever spent two days in Naples and it was for work, and I didn’t get to see it either. I hope she and Albert got a chance to escape for a bit.

Teresa blossomed around Joe’s family, and I’ll try to overlook the outfits she put the girls in at the last dinner. Finally in Sala Consilina, we saw sweeping views, people speaking Italian, slaughterhouses, and wine in to-go cups. One big question I had: why didn’t they just ditch the strollers and put the babies in slings? Those little mountain villages give your legs a workout, and a baby on the chest is much easier than a stroller on cobblestones. Our babies went all over the world with us, and we always used slings so we had our hands free. Baby in front, diaper backpack on back. Done. Once Simon and I climbed to the top of Eze, a hilltop village in the south of France, with François strapped into a Baby Bjorn and me in leather pants and high-heeled boots –- Teresa and Jacqueline could absolutely have rocked that look.

Back in New Jersey, Danielle ventured into Franklin Lakes for a panino, or I guess more than one since she kept saying “panini.” The way her voiceover was set up I kept thinking that Ashley was going to jump out from behind a tree and ambush her, but of course that didn’t happen. I was surprised that she seemed so upset about the call from the private investigator regarding her birth mother’s records –- just because the mom was a minor (which they knew already) doesn’t mean it won’t happen ever.

I have to say I could just replay this episode on mute, watching the views of Sala Consilina and everyone in Italy kissing each other. Makes me want to go back - those little villages are fantastic. In my twenties I was fortunate enough to do a national tour of Italy with a bilingual theatre company, and in every city we played, we met the owners of the theatres and their families, ate in private homes, met pretty much the whole town and had such a wonderful time. The scene where Jacqueline and Caroline were eating in someone’s home but didn’t know who their hostess was, reminded me of that experience. How much fun…

Back home, Nicholas nearly crawled away from his mother once she began feeling the weight of Ashley’s looming court case. Looks like this season is going to wrap up with a bang – are you ready?

See you next week, and I’m thrilled to say that Little Kids, Big City is finally available on iBooks, the Nookand the Sony e-Reader.
