Danielle-RHONJ Talks About Children On Television

Danielle talked to Babble about her kids appearing on TV.

Posted by MaraLee
Danielle Staub has a long list of people out to get her from her cast mates on The Real Housewives of New Jersey to criminals from her past like Danny Aguilar. She has done some seriously sordid things like selling cocaine and making a sex tape. So much negative has been said against her, it’s pointless and far too time consuming to recount. But while many parts of her life seem to be unraveling, Danielle can always find stability and solace in her family life, playing mother to daughters Christine and Jillian.

She took the time to talk to Famecrawler about why she chose to have her kids on reality TV, the most important lesson she is teaching them, and how she keeps them away from all the negative press.

How did you decide to let your children go on The Real Housewives of New Jersey?

My children were part of the show because from the beginning I thought it was going to be about families coming together and supporting each other. Maybe arguing a little bit and not loving each other all the time but still supporting each other. Jacqueline is a single mom, Dina was a single mom-I figured what’s’ the difference? We’re all women. How bad could the show be? Now I realize how important I really am because all they do is talk about me. If they’re talking about me and I’m talking about me-oh there we go. I don’t think anyone should replace Dina. I wouldn’t. I’m enough for all of us. That’s why there are only four of us standing.”

There’s a lot of negative press about you and some skeletons in the closet. How do you keep your children away from that when they can easily read it on the Internet?

“My kids and I don’t read anything on the Internet. Sorry to disappoint anyone. If it’s a great article, then that is the only time. My team will send it to me. It stops there. My kids aren’t interested in seeing the bad. They won’t look at it. They only want to see the good stuff. If you don’t show the bad, you won’t start living it. You get caught up in it and if you get caught up in other people’s dirt and opinions of you, it will consume you and bring you down. Darkness is coming, get ut of its way. Don’t read it, don’t engage it.”

There are some things you do on the show that some people would find questionable. Aren’t your kids seeing that?

“I believe you should be age-appropriately honest with your children and never show them something you wouldn’t want them to repeat. Some people will say things that I’m doing in front of my children but my children weren’t there. My children weren’t there chasing after another woman alongside of their mom. My children would never do that. Ever. Furthermore, in Season 1, everyone’s kids were there when a table was flipped at me and I was called horrific names. My children have never seen that kind of behavior.”

What’s the most important lesson you’ve taught your kids?

“I’m teaching my children to treat people with equality, humanity, and we stand and we platform-we try and feed the hungry and give back in every way we can. As Christine tells me very often, “Mom you tell me not to focus on the negative so don’t do it to yourself.” Whatever my kids are telling me or instructing me on in the show, they’re doing that because I taught them. I let my kids speak to what kind of parent I am. My tips are: Teach your children what you want them to learn and live by example. Everyone is going to be human and make mistakes but try to learn from them and make them into lessons instead of repeating them and making them into a second mistake.”

Luann-RHONY Tips On Beach Etiquette

Luann's lastes feature from OK magazine.

What Would the Countess Do?: Overpromoting Yourself; Hitting the Beach!
 Author: LuAnn de Lesseps

When it comes to etiquette, manners and overall good behavior, even celebrities need help navigating the rough waters of stardom! It’s a good thing Countess LuAnn de Lesseps of the Real Housewives of New York is joining forces with OK! to school them on the right thing to do! In a rough situation, we just ask, “What Would the Countess Do?” This week, the Countess takes on stars who love the limelight and summer beach tips!
Kim Kardashian is at the center of a media firestorm lately — from attending celebrity weddings, to supporting Lindsay Lohan to getting caught up in Justin “Bieber” Fever, the reality star knows how to work the press. When is enough, enough?
Some reality stars (I’m not going to mention any names) tend to over-promote themselves and hurt their image in the process. It is not reality TV or the press that is the problem here; it is the behavior of people who will do anything in the quest for celebrity while compromising their integrity. Celebrity based on outrageous behavior is fleeting, while a person’s recognition for good character is enduring. I personally draw the line with the press when it comes to the privacy of my children.

Tip: Remember that not all press is good press.

WHAT WOULD THE COUNTESS DO?: STAYING FRESH; THROWING SUMMER SOIREES

Now that it’s summer and we’re hitting the beach, could you give some tips on beach etiquette and making the most of our beach days?
I love going to the beach and just returned from France where I visited the Côte d’Azur. Here are some tips to make the most of your next beach day:

• Know your beach before you go. Some beaches are conservative, for singles, family-oriented, clothes optional or nudist. Choose your beach wisely so you don’t encounter any surprises, pleasant or otherwise.
• Wear a cover-up over your bathing suit until you are actually on the sand. Choose a suit that flatters your body and that goes with the vibe of the beach. What goes in Brazil may not be appropriate for Connecticut and may even get you arrested.
• I believe in the five-foot rule when setting up your place on the beach. Make sure that there are at least five feet between your stuff and your neighbor’s. Try not to block other people’s view of the water and remember to set up in back of the high tide mark so you don’t awake to a soaked towel and your cooler floating away.
• Leave only your footprints behind.

Tip: Unless you are 20 or Kim Kardashian, wear your cover-up to go to the beach bar.

Mary Amons-RHODC

Post from Guest of a Guest.

By Kelli Cheever
This marks the beginning in our Housewives review series. It's important you all know the cast members and their histories before you watch the series. Because what good gossip monger delves into a Real Housewives series without digging up as much info as possible? You can thank us later.
"It's all happening!" Is that Kate Hudson in Almost Famous? Wait, no it's our beloved Mary Schmidt Amons! It's one of her catch phrases (per her facebook page) and she's one of the latest ladies to storm Bravo as a cast member in Real Housewives of DC. Here's our take on her:

Age: 43(ish?)

Family: Married to Rich Amons for over 20 years. Together they have five children:

-Lolly (sidenote she appeared on Good Morning America with mama Mary for a segment about mothers and daughters who look the same age)
-Ryan
-Alexandra
-Meghan
-Matt

…what she likes to call "controlled chaos,"…that's one way to describe it? We just call it a whole lot of family.

Mary Amons, philanthropic super-mom of five, is a second generation Washingtonian with the quirks to match. One being she allegedly has a biometric fingerprint scanner to get into her impressive closet.

We love. And we die.

Like any good D.C. housewife, Mary has raised significant funds for local charities. One in particular is Labels for Love, a charity she founded in 2006 which supports various women's and children's causes.

So why did Mary decide to do Real Housewives when her friends thought it was, how do we say…déclassé?

According to Mary, she is an aspiring actress, and with legendary entertainer Arthur Godfrey as her grandfather, we bet she's had the entertainment industry in her sights for awhile now. After all, it's in her blood. Can't wait to to see how her "acting" skills play out on Real Housewives.

In addition to being an aspiring actress, Mary has also been a handbag and accessories designer…reminiscent of Kelly Bensimon? We don't see that craziness being played out in Mary, but with showbiz in her blood, we'll put our money on Mary to be the first D.C. housewife to release a song…'cuz you know someone will!

Kim/Kandi/Sheree on Star Island

From the Miami Herald Blog.

Posted by Lesley Abravanel
Has Kim Zolciak found her new sugar daddy on Star Island? The Real Housewives of Atlanta character is no stranger to Miami men--or women, having allegedly hooked up with DJ Tracy Young several months ago. And while that opportunity relationship didn't quite work out, Zolciak was reportedly on and off with her original benefactor, married Atlanta real estate mogul, Lee Najar. Until now, perhaps. In town with some of her fellow castmates for the Mercedes Benz FashionWeek Swim shows (why, we have no idea and as far as we know there was no She by Sheree show scheduled), Zolciak spent some QT with perennial Miami Beach party man, Thomas Kramer, who feted the Atlanta housewives at his Star Island sprawl, a Chuck. E. Cheese of sorts for the rich and horny. The bon vivant, who's also been trying to get into reality TV, would actually make an exceptional addition to Bravo's Hotlanta Housewives franchise as well as to Zolciak's bottom line, so don't be surprised if we see Zolciak flipping her wig over him in the coming weeks. On Bravo or otherwise.

Jacqueline-RHONJ Stay Away From My Family

From Babble.com.

By:SunnyChanel
Remember the days when Real Housewives’ Jacqueline Laurita was BFFs with Danielle Staub? That seems like a lifetime ago. There was once a time with Jacqueline would be quick to come to Danielle’s defense but now she’s just a quick to dish the dirt. It really seems that Jacqueline has been stunned by what she now sees as Danielle’s true nature and her scandalous past. But it isn’t all in the past anymore, now an ex-felon and an old cohort of Danielle’s, Danny Aguila, has reappeared and is demanding money from Danielle. And these old drug ties of Danielle coming out of the woodwork isn’t just annoying for Danielle it’s also affecting those around her and filling Jacqueline with fear. She wrote on her Twitter page that:
“Don’t even THINK about putting me in the same room w/that woman again! Enough is Enough! This is no joke!I fear 4our safety&those around her”

She added that “1986 called 2collect!We feared this from day1!D lied&denied it would happen when I confronted her!How dare she put us in danger!”

And in hindsight she is mortified that she may have put her kids in danger saying, “Would YOU want to be filming with her when he comes to “collect”?Or put UR family in danger?I was 1ce in her home w/my kids!”

And although Danielle claims she did nothing wrong and paid her dues, Jacqueline disagrees saying, “Ratting people out on a plea bargain is not the same as paying ur dues! Wrong place at the wrong time my ass!”

Do you think Jacqueline should feel that her family was or is in danger? Or do you think she’s just overreacting?

No One Has Clean Hands
Jul 20th, 2010 by Alex McCord.
I’m determined not to fall behind on episodes, so here we go down interstate 95 to Franklin Lakes, and what stood out for me this week…I’m not sure how funny this installment is going to be because frankly, the episode wasn’t funny – more quietly disturbing than anything else.

Topic number one was the aftermath of the fashion show confrontation & hair-pulling incident. My opinion is based on what we’ve all seen on the show – I specifically haven’t asked for further details from the ladies when I’ve seen them.

Unless something was cut out, I really don’t see how Ashley could have thought that her mother was being attacked – seems to me more of a convenient excuse to try and deflect her own behavior. Nobody deserves to have hair extensions yanked out. Is it worthy of pressing charges for assault? Eh, debatable. Is Danielle within her rights to do so? Yes. Will Ashley learn a lesson? I certainly hope so. We haven’t seen any indication of that yet based on her conversations with Caroline, Jacqueline and Derek. I really hope for her sake that her attitude changes and her underlying anger lessens. She mentioned to Derek that her mother keeps bringing the incident up – I’m sure the reason is that Jacqueline hasn’t gotten through to her.

Ultimately? No one walked out of that fashion show with clean hands. Danielle was rude during the show. Teresa started something by waiting for Danielle, and flew off the handle with the “don’t call me honey” comment and the jab about her house being in foreclosure, and Jacqueline may as well have had popcorn on the sidelines, then stood in front of the car like a matador staring down a bull. These girls are all scrappy and no one is afraid of a fight. I wish Danielle would just admit that she loves the confrontation too – the “oh poor me” business is getting boring. I tend to think that at the moment of the hair pulling, Danielle had to be doing an internal dance that she had “won” by getting a rise out of Ashley.

Did anyone else see the look on Christine’s face when Danielle was getting into the boxing practice? Knowing how to defend yourself against a mugger or rapist is a good thing, and I’ve taken those classes too. It got a little much for me when Danielle was shouting Teresa’s and Jacqueline’s names while punching.

More cute family scenes from the Giudice family – at least the little girls weren’t shouting out the names of kids on the playground when they threw their punches and kicks, so they are ahead of the game there. Glad to see Albie got his letter and has a plan; if he gets into school in California, Caroline will get to work on her tan!

I have to finish soon to play outside with two children advancing on the office with whiffleball and cricket bats. However before I do that, let’s talk about blonde women named Kim. Kim D didn’t bug me this week, but Kim G??? Wow. She has a lovely face and beautiful eyes, and hopefully has good intentions notwithstanding a clear desire for airtime. That’s about the best I can say for her. Why on earth is she playing both sides? Does she seriously think she can accompany Danielle to file charges against Ashley, and then show up to support Jacqueline? Is she going to dash between the two sides of the courtroom like a Keystone cop in a purple knit hat to testify as a witness for Danielle, then hold Jacqueline’s hand? Stay tuned for more on that…in the meantime, if you’re going to be in the Asbury Park area this weekend, come to the Bodega Shoppe on Saturday the 24th where Simon and I will be signing books, and don’t forget about Facebook and Twitter.

The Real Housewive Franchise goes global

Post from the NY Post about all the RH shows popping up.

By MAXINE SHEN
The Real Housewives” franchise has stormed the European shores.

“The Real Housewives of Athens” — as in Greece, not Georgia — is currently being filmed and is expected to premiere this fall. Like its American sisters, this version will follow affluent Greek ladies as they bustle about the cradle of democracy.

It’s just one of many planned Euro editions of the series, which features a format so easy to copy — a handful of screeching women living their “fabulous” lives — that parent company NBC Universal has already had to initiate a lawsuit against imitators in Spain to protect its hit intellectual property.

Although it hasn’t been picked up yet, casting is complete for the UK’s “The Real Housewives of Sandbanks,” set on the ritzy resort peninsula in Dorset, England — aka “Britain’s Monte Carlo.”

Meanwhile, versions set in France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Australia have also been optioned, with an Israeli version expected to be optioned soon.

Vicki-RHOOC talks about work and family

Interview Vicki did with The Office Stylist.

Life at Work: Vicki of The Real Housewives Orange County
It’s pretty obvious that life at work is different for all of us, so you can imagine our excitement at interviewing Vicki Gunvalson of The Real Housewives of Orange County. After all, what does a real housewife do?

Interviewed by Sayeh Pezeshki, Editor/Founder of TheOfficeStylist
Describe your typical workday

My typical workday consists of waking up between 6-7am. I am committed to staying in shape, and have recently enrolled in a Reformer Pilates class which I really love. I work out typically from 7am – 8am. After I get home, I usually throw a load of laundry in, shower and head straight to the office. I’m usually there by 9am.

My workday consists of selling life insurance or seeing clients to assist them in their retirement income planning. I am usually out of the office by 8pm at the latest. My nights consist of cooking dinner, finishing laundry, taking the new puppy for a walk and then back to my home office to do more emails and personal bills.

If you could work anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I fell in love with Santorini, Greece 3 years ago. I would love to work there. The lifestyle and work load seems manageable and they are committed to spending a few hours during the work day to have a siesta or coffee break. That would be ideal to me.

How would you describe your workspace?

I have a very large u -shape desk, 2 computer monitors, a credenza and a tall 4 drawer file cabinet in my office. I also have a large window that allows me to have natural light and a view of Saddleback Mountain which Is very beautiful.

What is one “work item” you can’t live without (could be your planner, laptop, iphone, ipad, etc)?

That’s easy – I can’t live without my computer. I would be out of business if I did not have that.

If you could switch careers for a day, what would you do?

I absolutely LOVE what I do for a living, and wouldn’t want to change it for any career. Selling life insurance and designing people’s retirement plans is truly a passion of mine, and with each day that I am given, it allows me to change my clients lives with the type of planning I do.

You have so much going on; can you give us one tip on how you keep it all together?

A great glass of wine at 10pm. Just kidding. But really, what allows me to keep it altogether – it’s good staff, a great support system at home and a lot of prayers.

What are 3 things fans don’t know about you?

I miss my father daily and pray to him every day. My father died of Alzheimer’s at a young age of 65, and the older I get the more I miss him

I would like to move back to the Midwest to be closer to my family

I’d like to retire by the time I’m 60, and pass my business along to my son Michael to run.

The most fearless and adventurous of all the housewives, Vicki Gunvalson, 47, is one of the original ladies of The Real Housewives of Orange County, appearing on the docu-series since season one. She owns a successful life insurance business, which viewers will see is continuing to boom with now over 600 agents under her helm. She is married to her second husband Donn Gunvalson, who is an executive at a shipping company.

RHONJ Review 7-19-10

From the Star-Ledger.

By: Vicki Hyman
"Real Housewives of New Jersey" should have come with a warning sticker this week: Kim Granatell will give you whiplash. First she tells Jacqueline Laurita that Teresa Giudice was out of control at the North Jersey Country Club throwdown, then she commiserates with Teresa about Danielle Staub bringing up Teresa's financial problems -- as if Teresa would ever admit to having something as crass as financial problems. And then she's by Danielle's side when Danielle presses charges against Jacqueline's daughter, Ashley Holmes. And THEN she shows up at Jacqueline's house with the freaking newspaper and tells Jacqueline that she'll stand by her side if she needs her ... but she probably won't have to because, Kim G. says, "by that time, we probably won't be friends anymore." It's a little unclear about whether she's talking about Jacqueline or Danielle. But she's probably right in either case.

Getting punchy: Danny Provenzano takes Danielle and her daughters to a boxing gym to teach her how to defend herself. She pretents she's hitting Teresa and Jacqueline. Then she's taught various self-defense moves. "It only takes one good smack to the head to make a person never walk again," Danielle says ambitiously. Meanwhile, Jacqueline comes over to Kim G.'s house. Hey, I've been there! Kim tries to tell Jacqueline that Teresa was out of control, but Jacqueline immediately defends Teresa, saying that the only time Teresa has lost her temper has been around Danielle. Kim wonders why Ashley didn't get arrested for pulling Danielle's hair, and Jacqueline says she can't condone what Ashley did.

Second chances: At the Manzo house, Al, Chris and Lauren are eating breakfast before going off to the Brownstone to work. Al tells law school reject (for lack of a nicer term) Albie that he could do some marketing work if he has time. Albie is feeling sorry for himself. But later he gets the letter from Seton Hall allowing him to apply to other schools. Yay. He tells Caroline there's a good chance he'll have to go out of state. God forbid. Al tells Caroline to get ready to deal with it.

A surprise visitor: Teresa heads over to Posche boutique, where she apologizes to Kim DePaola for making trouble at the fashion show. "If anything, I was trying to be nice," she lies (for lack of a nicer term). Kim D. says she's not upset, and the two proceed to trash Danielle. Kim G. shows up; Teresa is taken off guard. Kim, who earlier told Jacqueline that Teresa was out of line, tells Teresa that Danielle was out of line by bringing up something as personal as money woes. Then Teresa bluntly asks Kim G. why she's friends with Danielle. "I pity her," Kim G. says. In voiceover, Teresa says that the only regret she has from fight night is pushing Kim G., because she's an older woman,, "and I do respect the elderly." Ouch.
.
Whatever: Ashley tells boyfriend Derek that it's tough being home because her mother won't drop the fact that Ashley attacked Danielle. "At first I was like yeah, you know, I learned my lesson, blah blah blah, I was handling it well, but then she just keeps on bringing it up over and over again." Ah, to be 19 and lack any trace of self-awareness. In voiceover, Caroline says that Ashley was wrong, but she was doing it to protect her mother. Except her mother did not need protecting, of course. Ashley says Danielle has it out for her and wonders who she slept with to pay for her brand-new hair extensions. Derek tells her he's tired of talking about her, and that he hopes that Ashley got it out of her system. And Ashley says -- all together now -- whatever.

Movin' on up: Teresa visits Joe at his new pizzeria in Hillside, just west of Newark. I've been there too, decent slices. There's the pizzeria, plus a laundromat below some apartments, and Joe jokes that after they're tossed out of their mansion, this is where they'll be living. Ha ha, Teresa says. She explains their money problems: "I own a lot of properties in my name. Some good investments, some bad investments. The economy is bad." (And when the economy is bad, one doesn't, say, throw lavish housewarming parties -- particularly if you can't afford to furnish the house.)

Her day in court: Danielle meets Danny at the Oakland diner. She says she can't blame whole debacle on Ashley, who once looked up to her. For heaven's sake, Ashley once used Danielle's tanning room! She must have been poisoned by Jacqueline. Danielle meets with her attorneys, Darren DelSardo and Anthony Filomeno, outside Wayne municipal court. Kim G. and Danielle's other friends back up Danielle's tale of woe. Danielle claims that she heard someone say they were going to get her and that they'll kill her, which I don't recall from the footage, but quite frankly, she had enough of a case without that. Kim G. and the other friends say they just heard name calling. Ashley is charged with harassment and simple assault.

Two-faced monster: Kim G. turns up at Jacqueline's house with a copy of the Herald News with the story about Danielle's decision to press charges against Ashley. Um, why? Jacqueline rips into her for charging up to the courthouse arm-in-arm "like a busted up 'Sex and the City." Kim G. says she won't apologize for going with Danielle. Jacqueline says it's ridiculous that Danielle expects people to forgive and forget what she did 25 years ago and yet press charges against Ashley for a hair pull. "This girl has no one, and she asked me to do certain things, and I do them," Kim G. says. Jacqueline suggests that Kim G. stand by her side when she has to take Ashley court, and Kim G. agrees. "I feel like you're being two-faced," Jacqueline accuses. Kim G. agrees that she is. At least she's honest.

Best quote: "The only thing I regret about that night was pushing Kim G., because she is an older woman, and I do respect the elderly."

Staub's ex, Stephen Zalewski, is suing her for defamation of character and harassment after the reality star claimed on the show's "Play at Your Own Risk" episode that she didn't know he was filming their sexcapades, reported E! Online.

According to New Jersey state law, recording a person during sexual acts without his or her knowledge is illegal.

"She was standing there talking with her friends about how Steve hid cameras and recorded her with out her knowing," Zalewski's attorney, Nace Naumoski, told E!

"Any sex tape with Stephen in it was made with her bidding," the attorney added to RadarOnline.com. He added that he has emails and text messages to prove Staub knew about the tape.

"I have people come up to me in restaurants telling me I'm going to hell, I'm not a good person," Zalewski told Radar. "I try to explain to people I didn't do anything wrong. She would send me video texts of her playing with her self, I have nothing to do with that."

"Basically I want her to stop lying and ruining people's lives, she's really out of her mind, there's something wrong with her," Zalewski continued. "She plays the victim and says everyone is out to get her, but it's really the other way around."

Meanwhile, Staub is taking some legal action of her own.

After Ashley Holmes, daughter of "Housewife" Jacqueline Laurita, physically attacked Staub during last week's episode of the reality show, Staub is now suing Holmes and her table-flipping foe Teresa Giudice, according to PopEater.

Staub's attorney in the case, Paul Giblin, told Hollywood Life, "We are going to use this footage and prepare a case against these women. We are seeking assault and battery charges, defamation of character and punitive damages as well."

But Giudice isn't taking Staub's suit too seriously.

"Don't make me laugh. I think she's defamed her own reputation all by herself," she told PopEater.

Danielle-RHONJ being stalked

From Perez Hilton.com.
They must roll their eyes every time they get a phone call from her!

Danielle Staub alerted the police after Danny Aguilar, a convicted felon, called her last night demanded $100K from saving her ass from some drug dealers years back.

Aguilar says:

“My money got her out of trouble with these drug dealers. They wanted her dead and I didn’t want them to kill her. I paid for it. We all got popped, everyone went to jail and she snitched.”

Aguilar was the co-defendant when Staub was charged for extortion and intent to distribute cocaine. She agreed to a plea bargain where she would testify against Aguilar in exchange for 5 years probation and cocaine testing. As for Aguilar, he went to jail.

Danielle has been calling Aguilar "a celebrity stalker," but he begs to differ saying:

"I’m the ‘Real McCoy, I’m the one that did 15 years in a federal penitentiary over you. I’m no stalker.”

Yikes!

That Danielle is one shady lady!

Is Bethenny Smarter Than A 5th Grader?

Bethenny Frankel was in Los Angeles yesterday taping 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader'. The television personality tweeted about her adventure when she was in route to LA.

The game show is a competition between an adult and a makeshift classroom of 5th graders. While this doesn't sound like much, usually the 5th graders look smarter. How Bethenny handled the pressure is unknown as she didn't tweet what or how she did on the game show

One thing for certain, she missed her baby and after being in Los Angeles all day Sunday, she packed her bags and headed back to the Big Apple to hold the child by morning. This new mom is all about experiencing life with her child and living life to the fullest.

Jill and Ally promote Project Green Dorm

by Vivian Manning Schaffel
As the current co-president of the New York chapter of Teens Turning Green (an organization devoted to education and advocacy about environmentally and socially responsible choices for individuals, schools and communities), Ally created "Project Green Dorm" to raise teen awareness about "an all-encompassing eco lifestyle."
Ally says her organic lifestyle has a made a huge impact on how she feels -- literally and figuratively. "I felt that the things around me weren't helping my situation. [Ally struggles with arthritis.] I took all the toxic chemicals out of my food, and I haven't been in pain in a while -- I've stopped taking my medicine! I realized it's not only food, but what I put on my body and what I use every day. I feel much better all around -- it's been essential for me."

She says "greening up" a dorm room can simply come down to making educated purchasing decisions. "It's pretty amazing how accessible organic stuff is today, but no one realizes it," she says. "People usually buy what's cheapest for their dorm, but places like JCPenney have organic stuff, too!"

Ally recommends a few easy ways to "green up" your kid's dorm:

•Reuse old furniture by painting it with no-VOC paint, such as YOLO Colorhouse.
•Invest in organic sheets. Ally swears by those made by Coyuchi.
•Ally's a big fan of using biodegradable laundry detergents like Soap Nuts -- just take three, put them into a canvas bag with your dirty laundry and stick quarters into the machine!
•Check out local antique or vintage shops for furniture. (Steer clear of plastic.)
•Buy lots of plants -- they produce oxygen and help clean the air.
Ally's proud mom, Jill Zarin, says it's important to support kids with their "green" mission.
"It's just a matter of educating your teenager," she says. "You have to show them the alternatives and encourage them to make the green choice. You also should give your kid a few extra dollars, because it's more expensive to be green and organic. Part of the experience of going to college is wanting to change the world -- and hopefully, what Ally's doing will help."

Alex and Simon talk to A.M. NY

Article from AMNY.com.

By Perrie Samotin
Brooklynites Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen often are considered two of the more levelheaded — and clothes conscious — cast members of Bravo’s reality juggernaut “The Real Housewives of New York.”

We caught up with the married couple and their two young sons, Francois and Johan, at their Cobble Hill brownstone to peek inside their closets and talk style.

On their sartorial evolution
McCord: “During Season 1, we wore our own clothes. For the most part, we’ve either donated or consigned all that, except for a few things." (Pulls out long brown and white dress). “I wore this in the Season 1 credits. Why do I still have it? 'Cause it’s a great dress.”

On working with a stylist:
McCord: “During Season 3, Simon and I did work with a stylist, Alegra Torel. I think when you have a very clear sense of style, what you want is a stylist who shares your vision and gets inside your head to create outfits that are you — as opposed to remaking you.”

On shopping:
McCord: “Typically, we shop on weekends or on vacation. We tend not to go to department stores. We like to have relationships. We like to know [shopkeepers] and have them know us. Yes, we’ve done Bloomie's and Barneys, but we have a person who we talk to. Also, Being on the show and having people recognize that we’re so into fashion has opened up the opportunity for designers that we’ve never heard of to contact us.”

On personal style:
McCord: “My style is eclectic. I can get crazy and look like I walked out of Anna Sui or Betsey Johnson but also be super-tailored and wear Armani. I love the Louis Vuitton line Marc Jacobs did, it's very clean. I’m sorry Plein Sud doesn’t sell in the states anymore. Basically, the only time we can buy it is when we're in Saint Tropez.
vanKempen: Or Paris.

On the infamous red pleather pants:
Van Kempen: “I’d bought them for a [costume] party a couple of years prior and I wore them in the season finale because the producer phoned me and said, ‘wear something crazy.’ I didn’t realize they’d make such a big splash. The thing is, wearing cheap vinyl in summer … not the best.”

On dressing to compliment each other:
McCord: “If Simon says, ‘I need a bowtie to match [my] crazy Cavalli gown, that’s when we’ll go to Paul Stewart or Turnbull and Asser.
van Kempen: When that fails, go to Mood [Fabric] or cut a pair of jeans and go to a [neighborhood dry cleaner] and say ‘make me one of these out of this."
McCord: “One time — I have a denim ball gown by Diesel, which is awesome, — the [tailor] made Simon a denim cummerbund to go with it. Just slip covered it in denim. Done.”
van Kempen: "Alex and I, we don't dress alike but we do dress to complement each other."

Danielle is good for Jersey

Post from OK magazine.

Author: Valerie Nome
Although Real Housewives of New Jersey star Danielle Staub has been portrayed in an unflattering light, she doesn’t let that get her down.
“What I’ve learned about myself is to watch more carefully what I do say, and what I do,” the divorced mom of two, 47, tells me. “I try to set a good example for my children through what they’re learning when I’m living.”

Now that shows like Jersey Shore and Jerseylicious are also bringing the spotlight to the Garden State, Danielle is ready to take credit.

“It’s the Jersification of the world,” she says. “I’d like to think it started with yours truly. I brought enough to bring a lot of attention to New Jersey, and I’m going to hold it and keep it.”

What’s the biggest misconception about the state?

“The biggest misconceptions about New Jersey would be that we are filled with gossip,” she explains. “We do not mirror ourselves after the other four women on our show. It’s about being real, being good to one another and family-oriented. I think people are missing it when they think we’re all into shopping. I cook. I cook every day for my kids, and I think they’re missing it. The biggest misconception is we do not spend family time together, but we’re all about family.”

Silex talk RHONY and kids at Borders, Syosset,NY

Article from Syosset Patch.

By Amy Platt
"There's no rational explanation for the irrational," said Simon van Kempen, co-star of The Real Housewives of New York City, when asked about fellow cast mate Kelly Killoren Bensimon.

Although Bravo has recently finished airing the third season of the reality show, van Kempen and wife Alex McCord aren't done offering provocative comments. Their book tour to promote Little Kids, Big City: Tales From a Real House in New York City, came to Syosset Borders Friday night. The crowd that included men and women of all ages listened to the couple read excerpts from the book and answer questions on their relationships with cast mates and the reality of being on a reality show.

"I started writing down my experiences while I was pregnant, " McCord, mom of 6-year-old Francois and 4-year-old Johan, told the audience. "Initially it was for the kids to have [as a memoir] when they grew up."

The couple began blogging for Bravo about the show and was approached by a literary agent. After having their young boys portrayed in earlier seasons of The Real Housewives as wild and inappropriate, they received a lot of criticism from the public for writing a parenting book.

"There was an article recently in New York Magazine that was very one-sided," said McCord, "talking about how having children makes people depressed. Not everyone feels that way. There are so many dogmatic things out there that hold people to impossible standards that they can't match."

Their best parenting advice?

"Have the confidence to do what you feel is right; there's more than one way to raise a happy child," McCord said. "What works for your family isn't going to be the same as what works for someone else, and what works for one kid won't necessarily work for another. Talk to everyone, read everything and then have the confidence to fly by the seat of your pants."

Although they were happy to discuss their book, the couple fondly nicknamed "Silex" by many of their fans was also open to answering questions about the show and specific events that aired during the third season.

* When asked about cast mate LuAnn de Lesseps's single "Money Can't Buy You Class," van Kempen replied, "Auto-Tune was invented for a reason."

* McCord said Bensimon's claims that she was forced by producers to go on the trip to St. John (in celebration of cast mate Ramona Singer's vow renewal) were false.

* The couple agreed that the newest housewife, Sonja Morgan, is a great addition to the cast.

* The reason that their sons barely appeared in the third season was not a conscious effort on their part, but rather "because well-behaved kids do not make for good television."

They also confirmed that what we see on television truly is their reality as they live it, although being on the show gives a little push to the drama.

"In real life if you get mad at someone," Alex said, "you can walk away. On reality TV, you can't do that." Luckily for the producers, that inability to walk away created drama that has attracted 2.5 million viewers on a weekly basis.

McCord and van Kempen have come a long way from being portrayed during the first season as the couple who couldn't bear to be apart for even one second. This season, she gained a huge following as she came out of her shell and into her own, speaking her mind on many different occasions while evolving into a genuine and loyal friend.

Others admire the couple for the way they interact with their fans through social media. One attendee at the book signing was overheard thanking van Kempen for responding to a post that she had written on his Facebook page.

Jamie F. and her friend Laura F., both 29 and from Smithtown, are big fans of the entire Real Housewives franchise and were overjoyed to have found out about this book signing via Facebook.

"We can't not watch," Jamie said. "It's like a drug,"

Danielle Staub has another lawsuit on her hands! The Real Housewives of New Jersey star is being sued by Stephen Zalewski, the man in her recent sex tape and individual who allegedly leaked the tape. Stephen’s attorney, Nase Naumoski, filed a suit in Morris County (N.J.) Superior Court, July 15, claiming Danielle has been ruining his reputation. But we spoke to one of Danielle’s attorneys, Bob Cherry, who tells HollywoodLife.com that Stephen is actually the one at fault and they will fight this in court.

“Danielle and Stephen had an agreement,” says Bob, Danielle’s attorney. “There was a confidentiality agreement and Stephen was the one who actually broke the agreement. We will respond appropriately … Stephen breached the contract.”

Meet the sixth housewife of D.C.

Post from the Washington Post.

Paul Wharton and Erika Gutierrez, co-hosts of the "Tie One On" cocktail fundraiser for MenzFit at -- hey, what's that camera guy doing? We thought the reality TV season was done for the summer! (Amy Argetsinger/The Washington Post)

By: Amy Argetsinger&Roxanne Roberts
This city may snooze in the depths of summer, but reality TV never sleeps.

During a week when our dance card had dried up, we got a last-minute invitation to a cocktail fundraiser for MenzFit, a nonprofit that gets struggling fellows into proper suits to compete in the job market. And, as with so many invitations lately, the grim warning was: "This event will be filmed for TV."

The cameras were there all right, on the rooftop of the Donovan House hotel Thursday, circling one partygoer in particular. Paul Wharton, a local stylist and occasional TV personality (VH1, CW), hasn't been highlighted in the promos for "Real Housewives of D.C.," but he's poised to emerge as the unofficial "sixth Housewife." The flat-ironed, high-cheekboned fashionista is all over the premiere, debuting next month -- cackling as Lynda Erkiletian declares Michaele Salahi to be anorexic, then telling Michaele what Lynda said. Fun! And Thursday, a camera (labeled "HYP" -- for "Housewives" producer Half Yard Productions?) rolled on around him . . .

Now wait: It's too late for the first season of D.C. "Housewives," and too soon to shoot a second season. . . . Do we smell spinoff? Will the madness never end? We pried Wharton (pinstriped skinny pants, pointy shoes) from his frenetic airkissing. "I am in the business of TV, and D.C. is the place to be these days," he told us cryptically. "I've found a great partner in Half Yard . . . and the rest you'll have to see.".

Bethenny co-hosting The View

From Hollywood News.com.
Reality TV star, best-selling author, mother, wife and chef Bethenny Frankel will be taking on another job as a co-host of ‘The View’ next Thursday.

Frankel took to her Twitter to tease her fans in anticpation by asking, “Bethenny Co-Hosting ‘The View’ Next Thursday?” However, she couldn’t keep it secret and let everyone know that they should tune in to catch her with the other ladies next week.

But if that is too far away, she let her Twitter followers know that her show, Bethenny Getting Married?, is on tonight and showing everyone just what happened on her honeymoon.

Bethenny will be co-hosting The View next Thursday, July 22, 2010.

Is Danielle-RHONJ picked on?

From The Frisky.com

Posted by: Ami Angelowicz
I’ve had a couple of days to process the “unbeweavable” episode of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” that aired on Monday night. In case you missed it, it came complete with name calling, hair pulling, broken boots, dirty accusations, police reports, and of course, subsequent lawsuits. But believe it or not, I’m feeling mildly sympathetic toward Danielle Staub. Maybe all of her fears about being attacked were not unfounded after all?

I’ll admit that Danielle was acting like a total a-hole during the Posche (pronounced posh) fashion show, but I expect that from her. To her credit, she didn’t try to start anything with the ladies. What I did not expect was Teresa Giudice’s lunacy. What was she doing? Trying to start a fight so she could go home to her foreclosed mansion and tell her husband about it as foreplay? That’s sick.

And Jacqueline Laurita. Shame on her. She needs to control her daughter! I’ve always thought that Jacqueline would try to keep the peace at all costs, but her attempts to restrain Teresa and Ashley were pathetic. She even seemed to be smirking. And Ashley? Oh Ashley. Have we heard any explanation as to why that girl isn’t getting dragged by the ear to college? Higher education is what she needs to be involved in, not Danielle drama. Finally, Kim (Posche’s owner) is a two-faced beyatch! I think she set this whole dirty thing up to draw business to her stupid store.

Was Danielle overreacting for effect, shaking and crying behind a bush? For sure. Does she have the police on speed dial? Probably. Is she crazy? Definitely. But the other women had a responsibility not to kick the rabid dog, and they did anyway. No matter how mad someone makes you or how crazy they may be, that doesn’t give you the right to attack them. Shame on them for thinking the incident was funny. It was not funny; it was illegal.

Phew. So what did you think?

Silex loves Montauk

Post from DelainaDixon.com

By TV Divagal
Rock the Look’s Maureen Tokeson-Martin recalls her posh weekend out in the celeb-infused Long Island getaway!

“Escaping the hustle and bustle of New York City every once in a while is a must. So last weekend, my husband and I hopped into our pick-up truck for a three hour drive to Montauk, N.Y.

Located at the northern tip of Long Island within the city of East Hampton, Montauk has the fourth oldest lighthouse in the United States and a population under 4,000. Of course, most of those just happen to be the rich and famous.

We didn’t score an invitation to Robert DeNiro’s oceanfront home in town, but we did nestle into Panoramic View for 48 hours of pure relaxation.

This exclusive resort offers studios to two-bedroom units and beach houses for rent along with luxury residences. Think VIP ocean views, crisp cream linens, hot tub! And we weren’t the only ones spotted enjoying our mini-vacay.

“The floor plans are great for families and you can chose studios or multiple bedroom units, depending on how many kids and people you have along for the ride,” The Real Housewives of New York City’s Alex McCord, who was there with her devoted hubby Simon, told us.

“It is incredibly quiet with all the amenities of Montauk just a five minute drive away. You have autonomy and privacy without a typical ever-present resort staff, but the conveniences you do want such as towel service at the beach and pool and housekeeping are provided.”

Private beaches, and famous neighbors, plus hanging with The Real Housewives. Who wouldn’t love that?
