Kelly Bensimon's Fashion Week Blog III: Badgley Mischka's Fitzgeraldian Moment

Kelly Bensimon, whom you might know from a little television show called The Real Housewives of New York, is a model, writer, party circuit fixture and general lady-about-town. She'll be covering the goings on in NYC during Fashion Week for PAPERMAG. You can follow her on Twitter at @kikilet.
My first show at the Mercedes Benz Fashion week at Lincoln Center was Badgley Mischka. I didn't first get to know Mark Badgley and James Mischka through their designs -- I actually met them at the Hampton Classic horse show. Mark and James are good friends with Cornelia and CZ Guest who introduced me to the brilliant duo. The designers are clearly inspired by their glamorous friends -- their Spring 2011 show was filled with the elegant, flowing dresses that someone who lives a fantasy lifestyle like the Guests or other Badgley Mischka fans like Jennifer Lopez would wear. Their look is one that's sexy, effortless and entitled. As the models walked the runway and Temper Trap played "Sweet Disposition" (apparently the theme song of Fashion week, as I heard it at Minnie Mortimer, too -- I'm actually blasting it as I write this, lol), my leg bounced to the music and I was transported to a Fitzgeraldian scene where everything was unexpected, women were feminine and carefree, champagne flowed and every moment took your breath away. One of my favorite lines in "Sweet Disposition" is "Don't stop to surrender." This sentiment was echoed in what I saw in Badgley Mischka's collection. Their clothes encourage the women who wear them to enjoy the moment, relish in the beauty and enjoy life. Thank you Mark and James. The platforms, hot shorts, high waisted jeans and gorgeous gowns inspired me to dream for just a moment.

Jennifer Gilbert Would "Like To See A More Diverse Cast" On The RHONY

As reports swirl that the upcoming season of The Real Housewives of New York will be adding a “wealthy Hamptons housewife,” former cast member Jennifer Gilbert, says it’s not a done deal yet, adding she would like to see a more diverse cast.
But the identity of the new rabblerouser will soon be known. Housewife Ramona Singer, who will be returning to the show, told HollywoodLife.com at an OK! magazine party Sept. 13, “There is a new girl coming on…We start filming Sept. 20, that’s our target date. It’s going to be the best season ever, I feel it and I know it.”
And fellow cast member Jill Zarin, author of The New York Times bestseller, Secrets Of A Jewish Mother, tells HollywoodLife.com she has faith in Bravo’s casting. “Bravo selects strong women who are independent and driven, which is why I feel so grateful to be part of the franchise. (Zarin also reacted to this week’s news that New Jersey Housewife Danielle Staub, landed a new show, Social, on WeatlhTV, saying “I am excited to see any Housewife branch out, whether it be a product line or their own TV show.”)
As for Jennifer, she may return to the show’s upcoming season, but not as a permanent character; instead she may appear on the show planning parties for the other cast members. “That is the hope,” she said. “I met with Bravo. I’m talking to a bunch of the girls about events they want to plan. I’d love to come back. I had fun. I just don’t want to do it every minute. It was great, but it was a tremendous amount of work, and to be honest, I’ve had a business for 16 years, I have a job. And I have kids. “
And Gilbert say she won’t miss being engulfed in the show’s seemingly non-stop drama. “At least this time, I’ll be watching from the sidelines!”

It would be nice to do something a little diverse. All I know is The Real Housewives of New Jersey got [extremely high] ratings, so I think in order to get those type of ratings, they should up the ante.” Adds Jennifer, who remains friendly with the cast, “I do know that they haven’t 100 percent firmed up [the new cast member]. It’s not entirely in stone yet. I know they were looking at a zillion people.”

Ramona Singer won't reveal the mystery woman's name (they begin filming Season 4 next week), but she promises viewers won't be disappointed.
"She isn't leaving totally," Singer tells Us. "We are intertwined in a sense. She proved to Bravo you don't have to have table-flipping to get ratings."
After a tension-packed third season, Singer says she's looking forward to "no drama" this time around.
"I just hope Kelly [Killoren Bensimon] doesn't have a worse breakdown on this show like she did last season," she says.

Robin Leach Wishes Danielle The Best With Her New Show

BFFs, after Danielle revealed to HollywoodLife.com that she was going to be the next “Robin Leach” we thought we’d ask the British TV host himself what he thought — and let’s say it was more than just “champagne wishes!”
But if Danielle can shell out the dough, Robin says he’ll teach her a thing or two about the rich & famous before she begins her new adventure.
“Maybe this will bring her elegance, good manners and class to her act,” Robin laughs. “I would offer to give her lessons, but it depends on how much money.”
It turns out WealthTV actually approached Robin for a similar type of show years ago, but he turned it down.
“When they first started they came to me to buy all of the old shows and they wanted to do a new series but there wasn’t enough money,” he says. “All I can do is wish her luck … I hope they have enough money to travel the world!”
But Robin points out that even though Danielle says her show will have a twist, it’s not really a twist at all.
“The joke is they are going to do it differently and mingle with the billionaires,” he says. “What do you think we did for 14 years? We went to their parties, and their charities … so what’s new pussycat?”
Either way, Robin wishes Danielle the best and wants you to know he’ll be back next year!
“I’ll give you a hint,” he says. “It will be 30 years since Lifestyles first began.”

Danielle Staub, 48, needs to listen up, because the expert on Hollywood’s most elite, Robin Leach, 69, wants to give her a couple of pointers before she starts her new gig as the host of Social, a new TV show on WealthTV! Danielle explained the show to HollywoodLife.com Sept. 13, and revealed it will be very similar to Robin’s hit show, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, which aired for 10 years. The reality vixen even told us she would be the next “Robin Leach,” but the man of “caviar dreams” chuckled as he told HollywoodLife.com he’s “irreplaceable.”
“I’ve been copied and imitated and impersonated since I first went on TV in 1980,” he says. “I’ve been on TV for three decades so no one is going to kick me to the curb, but I will admit Danielle looks better, poses better, and photographs better than me.”

The Salahis Turn Real Housewives Viewers Off

We hate to say it, but it's probably for the best!
These two don't need any more attention than they already have!
Apparently, the tipping point for Bravo came when the Salahi's attempted to blame them for banning them from speaking about the White House gatecrashing incident, which has been vehemently denied by the network in a statement released yesterday.
They also allegedly refused to attend the Housewives of D.C. launch party, and then hosted a competing party the same night!
WTF is wrong with these people?
A fellow castmate reveals:
"At this point, they are an embarrassment to the 'Housewife' franchise. They are a loose cannon. Now, Michaele has revealed she has multiple sclerosis; next she'll be announcing she is pregnant with triplets to get attention."
Unreal. We truly hope that her announcement regarding the disease yesterday is not fabricated. Anyone who would lie about having something as serious as multiple sclerosis just for press is seriously deranged.
We have a sinking feeling that these two are going to be caught in a lot more lies soon enough.
We hate to say it, but it's probably for the best!

Bravo has apparently had enough of Tareq and Michaele Salahi's delusional levels of crazy, and according to insiders, will not be inviting the couple back for the second season of The Real Housewives of D.C.!
Sources explain:
"The DC show is the only show in the entire franchise that isn't a true hit. And the Salahi's are the biggest reason for that. At first, execs thought they struck gold with all the attention the couple got over the White House dinner. But now they realize not all press is good press and this couple's involvement in the show has turned more viewers off than on."

The Salahis Have Not Been Exonerated In The White House Incident

A federal grand jury investigating White House 'gatecrashers' Tareq and Michaele Salahi has twice interviewed their former publicist, RadarOnline.com has learned.
"I was very close to this situation," Mahogany Jones told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview.
"I've appeared in front of the grand jury (but) I can't say too much about it."
The Salahis are also behind a new book by journalist Diane Dimond to tell "the never before revealed details of what happened before, during and after" their November 2009 'crashing' at the Obama administration's first state dinner.
To the embarrassment of the Secret Service, the Salahis shook hands with President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, without having a formal invitation.
Jones, who was hired by the Salahis in 2009 after the couple was cast on Bravo's Real Housewives of D.C., refused to be interviewed for Dimond's tell-all; but in her first in-depth interview, the public relations advisor told RadarOnline.com the notorious socialites could face further legal ramifications.
"That's what they're portraying it to be, that they're exonerated," Jones said. "That's the whole falsehood."
She added, "From my perspective -- and I'm not legal counsel or anything like that -- [but] I believe there will be some action."
Jones resigned in May because her former clients were "rogue" and "completely uncontrollable."
While she wouldn't elaborate on what she told the jury under oath, Jones recounted for the first time, how Tareq and Michaele told a television producer President Obama "personally invited" them to his first state dinner.
She said a producer of the D.C. franchise enquired about seeking media credentials for the event.
"According to them, they were told by the Salahis that they were personally invited by the Obamas to go to this dinner," Jones told RadarOnline.com.
"That was odd to me, if you're calling asking me to assist in trying to get you attendance to the dinner and then someone else tells me they're already invited.
"Knowing the Salahis and their ways, a lie, or two lies, is not unreasonable for them."
Despite that claim, Jones recalled how the Salahis asked her to put them in contact with top Pentagon official Michelle S. Jones, a special assistant to the Secretary of Defense, in a bid to have them invited to President Obama's first state dinner.
Jones recalled, "Tareq had called me and said to me, 'We're trying to get in touch with Michelle Jones, is there anything that you can do to help us get in contact with her?'
"I told Tareq, 'There's nothing I can do to connect you all.'
"In my view, by the Salahis asking me, they didn't have an invitation. But I knew they were resourceful people."
Michelle Jones, who serves as the Pentagon's White House liaison, has flatly denied she promised the pair admittance.
E-mails between the Salahis and Michelle Jones indicate the official was trying to get them in to the White House event, but did not succeed.
In the last email from Jones, sent at 8:46 a.m., Nov. 24, she said she still had not gotten them tickets.
Yet in an email sent at 1:03 a.m., Nov. 25, the Salahis wrote that they did not get that phone message from Jones because their "cell phone battery died early this evening while we were in D.C. from our country home."
They wrote, "We ended up going to the gate to check in at 6:30 p.m. to just check, in case it got approved, since we didn't know, and our name was indeed on the list!"
The Salahis former staffer told RadarOnline.com, "That was odd to me because why would they need assistance from Michelle Jones when they supposedly had other connections within the White House.
"Those types of questions have come into my mind, but I didn't question it at the time."
Jones said the couple "are completely manipulative", and suggested their bold behavior was a ploy to attract attention for the Bravo program.
"I wouldn't put it passed them," Jones said.
"It's like Balloon Boy... I guess in their mind, this thing would have been the biggest thing on the show and would have brought ratings and everything."
"They're completely savvy about getting what they want or making people see them as they want them to be seen; they'll do things or say things so they can get their way and I think that's how they've gone through life."
Bloom, attorney for the Salahis, has said Jones is bad-mouthing the couple because she hasn't been paid for her services.
Of that claim, Jones told RadarOnline.com, "I'm not the only one who they owe money to... I need to stand in line."

Danielle Sings About Domestic Violence

Danielle tells us she’s releasing a second single! But this time, the song has a very deep-rooted meaning to her.
“I’m releasing the song at the end of September,” Danielle told us. “It’s called ‘Cry’ because it’s about trying to stop domestic violence.”
“I wrote it for personal reasons,” she told us. “Lori wrote it and produced it. There were a lot of tears while making it but I hope once it’s released that it stops a lot of tears.”

Danielle Staub isn’t just all over TV, she’s also about to blow up the airwaves in a big way! The Real Housewives of New Jersey star spoke to HollywoodLife.com on Sept. 13 OK! magazine’s fifth anniversary party, where she revealed that she’s still making music! Danielle, who released her first single “Real Close” with the help of rumored girlfriend Lori Michaels, is about to drop another single titled “Cry.”

Danielle got candid with us, as she admitted that the song was written because of her own experiences with spousal abuse. We’re assuming she’s referring to her ex-husband, Kevin Maher, who is currently suing her for defamation of character.

"It's going to be written much the same way as my first book," McCord told RadarOnline.com exclusively. "It will be about what goes on in relationships, particularly our relationship. We talk in a very snarky, irreverent way about the things that have happened to Simon and I over the last 11 years."
McCord also reveals the book will address Simon's first marriage, something that isn't really covered on RHONYC.

"Nothing could prepare you for being instantly famous. Being on the show was the best thing I ever did -- and the worst thing. Yeah, the paparazzi and the fake stories about my family are aggravating, but we choose to concentrate on the blessings--the great things that came out of it, like my New York Times best-selling cookbook, Skinny Italian, meeting so many wonderful fans, things like that."
All of your fans are very concerned about your, Joe's and the girls' well-being. Is your family really $11 million in debt?
"I really appreciate everyone's concern. I get the sweetest, most uplifting letters from people. And yes, Joe and me and the girls are all happy and healthy. We're in God's hands. What more could I ask?"

Do you think that you will have to sell your gorgeous house? Or will you have to get a job?
"I have a job! I have four jobs actually. My first and most important job is being a mommy. But I'm also an author, I run an online boutique, and I make appearances around the country. I think I'm the only New Jersey Housewife that actually went to college. I have a fashion degree and worked as a buyer for Calvin Klein and Macy's before I had kids. I've always worked. I love to work. But my family comes first."
You truly "sizzle" in the commercial for Sizzles Tanning Salon in Totowa, N.J. How did that come about?
"I just signed with ICM [International Creative Management, a leading talent agency], so yes, you're going to be seeing a lot more of me! I'm also releasing my own fragrance, a make-up line -- and a line of cookware."
Have you given any thought to hosting your own reality-TV cooking show?
"I would love to, yes! I get letters from fans to do my own show all the time. I'm definitely looking into it. It would be nice to be on TV for something positive instead of just drama, drama, drama..."
Do you have any plans to write another cookbook? What about a beauty book?
"I'm working on my second book right now. It's a family cookbook and it will be out in Spring 2011. It will be the same format as last time--gorgeous photos of the food and me and my girls cooking--but 60 all-new recipes with new stories, tips and fun food facts."
A few weeks ago, you appeared on ABC's The View. Did you feel attacked by the hosts?
"I thought I handled myself well on The View. I didn't feel attacked on the show, but I actually didn't hear Joy Behar say the "slumlord" comment until I watched it later on TV. They all talk over each other, so it's hard to hear everything. I can't say I'm too impressed that professional journalists would act like that, but what can you do?"
On the reunion episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, things got pretty physical between you and Danielle Staub to the point that you shoved Andy Cohen and then had to be held back by him. Any comments?
"Things never got physical. I just can't sit back and watch someone attack my family. Danielle crossed a line she shouldn't have crossed. I didn't mean to push Andy, he was just holding me back -- and I hate to be held as if I'm going to do something. I would never touch a hair on her head. I've never gotten physical with anybody. It's not my style. I love Andy and yes, afterwards, we hugged it out."
Do you get nervous before the reunion shows?
"No. None of the women make me nervous, on any of the shows. And certainly not Danielle."
It's official: Bravo announced that Danielle Staub will not be returning to The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
"If Danielle was on or off the show, it didn't bother me. I can deal with her. And I'm certainly not afraid of her or anything. Was she fired? You'll have to ask Bravo."
Tell me about performing in the comedy My Big Gay Italian Wedding off-Broadway .
"Of course I was nervous! But I was also excited and thrilled to be a part of it. Thankfully, my lines were easy, and I only had to do a few Lady Gaga moves. We rehearsed for two weeks. It was so successful, we're doing an encore in October."

"No, of course not. He came to the show opening night and went to the after-party with me and the cast and producers. We have a lot of gay friends and support them in everything that they do."
Do you ever feel misjudged by your audience or the public?
"I think it's definitely easier to judge than to not judge, that's why people do it. If you look different or have a different lifestyle, then it's the first thing people will attack you for. It's sad really, but I experience it myself. When people don't like you--or think they don't like you because of what they see on television--first they'll call me an ethnic slur or then they'll make up a rumor about how I don't like this group or that. Believe me, I love everyone! My best friends--the people I trust the most--are Catholic, Jewish, African-American, gay, tall, short, blonde... you name it. I love people for their hearts, not their appearance or lifestyle."
Would it upset you if one of your girls turned out to be gay?
"Of course not. All I want is for my kids to be happy. I recently talked to Chris Colfer from Glee and told him how much I loved him. What he's doing on his show is so brave and amazing. Love, love, love him!

Michaele Salahi, who gained notoriety with her husband by crashing a glitzy White House state dinner, says in a new book that she suffers from multiple sclerosis, a potentially debilitating disease that she says she has kept secret for years.
Salahi says a bad spell the night of the White House dinner caused the couple to leave the event early.
The Associated Press obtained a copy of the book in advance of its sale Wednesday.
Multiple sclerosis, Salahi says, explains her rail-thin physique. She rejects suggestions by others that she suffers from an eating disorder. She is described in the book as eating sugary cereal for Thanksgiving and not eating or drinking even water for long periods of a day.
Weight loss is not a typical symptom of MS, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Salahi, now 44 and a central figure on Bravo's reality show "Real Housewives of D.C.," was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when she was 28, according to the book. Her symptoms include tingling sensations and exhaustion, especially in stressful situations. One such spell caused the Salahis to leave early from the White House dinner that the couple continues to insist they were invited to attend.
In the book, both Salahi and her husband, Tareq, describe brief conversations with President Barack Obama that evening.
The Salahis arrived at the White House with a camera crew filming footage for the reality show that aired eight months later. But they were not on any of the guest lists and did not receive the typical engraved invitation to the exclusive event. That the Salahis were able to get into the White House and so close to the president without being on a guest list prompted changes to security policies, the punishment of three Secret Service officers and a criminal investigation that hasn't yet led to charges.
The book's author cites contemporaneous e-mail exchanges about their efforts to get into the event at the last minute. But she also writes critically about other aspects of the Salahis' lives and business dealings. "They may have been downright duplicitous," Dimond writes.
The author found no evidence, for example, to corroborate Salahi's claim that she was a Washington Redskins cheerleader.
"I have to conclude that Michaele Holt Salahi made up the story of having been a Redskins cheerleader ... and once caught in the lie she responded by confronting those who questioned her with more lies," Dimond writes. "It raised the question, What else might she have been less than truthful about?"
Elsewhere in the book, Neal Schon, the lead guitarist for the rock group Journey, would not confirm in the book that he and Salahi once had a relationship that Salahi described as "intimate" and "passionate." On her "Real Housewives" blog, Salahi says she is working on a secret song with Schon. Schon did not respond to a message sent through his Facebook page, but he lists the Salahis among his friends.
The book describes the Salahis as a social-climbing couple with a history of charitable contributions and a "mound of outstanding debt" who have been wrongly accused in the White House dinner incident by the government and the media.
The 255-page book, published by Amazon, goes on sale Wednesday for $15.99.

THR has learned that the natural food chef has began taping Season 2 of the wildly popular series in New York this week -- even though the deal between Frankel and the network has yet to be finalized.
Season 1 premiered in June as Bravo’s highest rated series debut in network history. The show followed Frankel and then fiancé Jason Hoppy as they prepared for their March 2010 wedding and the arrival of their daughter Bryn (born May 8, 2010).
According to the source, the show title may change -- as Frankel is already wed -- but no official decisions have been made.

Kelly Bensimon turned up at the Alice + Olivia party last night during New York Fashion Week showing off her famous gams in cool shorts and an easy shirt from the label. “This is my version of fall,” Bensimon told PEOPLE. And though Kelly might be hanging on to her leg-baring style for now, when the temperature starts to plunge, the sexy Housewife admits that she’ll be trading in her hot pants for skinny jeans. “I’m really liking skinny jeans and white shirts,” she says. “I love the idea of the big, oversized shirt and skinny jeans and sky-high shoes. I want to be really, really comfortable this fall, but I want to be smokin’ sexy, too.” And for Kelly, that means keeping it covered. “I’d rather wear skinny pants than show my boobs. I think sexy is just the way that you feel,” she says. “I think the girl that is sexy is the girl that has a lot of confidence, not the girl that has big boobs or a big butt.”
